About the Author Agnes Spurlock was born in rural Kentucky and moved to Norwood, Ohio when she was 8 years old. She was fortunate to have loving parents who were wonderful examples of common sense and perseverance who taught their children the importance of giving back. She considers herself lucky to have grown up in a more innocent time during the 50s and 60s in a community where friends remain friends for life. As an active volunteer for fifty years, she has been recognized by various organizations for her volunteer service and recently was inducted into her high school alumni association hall of fame as a Distinguished Alumni. Agnes enjoyed a successful non-profit career in volunteer management and speaking part-time to women about seeking to live a life in balance. Just starting to enjoy retirement, her life was turned upside down when her oldest daughter was diagnosed with cancer. A Gift of Joy tells a beautiful story of a special mother-daughter relationship of lessons learned and of leaving no words left unsaid during an inspirational journey of acceptance, courage and living life when it really matters. Agnes and her husband live a quiet lifestyle in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they recently downsized and are experiencing a new freedom living with less stuff. They enjoy spending time with their family and friends, have everything they need and are just minutes away from their youngest daughter, son-in-law and two grand-daughters. The title, "Gift of Joy" says it so clearly. The author depicts so many aspects of Sherry's life that touched others in special ways. I recommend "Gift of Joy" to everyone!

I gobbled up this book as if a textbook (underlining & taking note on all my favorite lines, thoughts, suggestions, nuggets of humor, heartbreaking wisdoms & infusions of JOY! It made me wish I had known Sherry.. On second thought, it allowed me the honorof knowing Sherry. Thank you Agnes for sharing your beautiful self & your beautiful Sherry with all of us.

It is an eye-opener to the realities of cancer, and how to deal with it. An honest and forthright story of the ups and downs of cancer. It also offers suggestions of what family and friends can do to help, and what to do afterward to be of comfort to the family. I would recommend it highly to everyone. You will laugh and cry through the whole story. I can see why it is called "A Gift of Joy"
