Holly has really outdone herself in this intriguing and gripping story. I can't wait for you ladies to read it. I promise that you won't be let down, or even want to put the book down either.Ok so you have four siblings trying to make their way through life, but when tragedy strikes it will bring them back together for a whole lot of drama. Will this family be able to survive, or will secrets, lies, and deception completely take them down to nothing.I don't want to give to much away with this story, but I swear this book will make you say hmmmmmm. You think you have it figured out, but some twist and turns will take you on a different path. Ladies I hope that you enjoy this book, and get lost in this amazing story! NOW bring on Wicked Dirty Sins!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. This book has a little of everything...romance, suspense a lots of drama! Great read!! By TLBC My Review: ARC provided4.5stars!Four siblings: Everly, Charley, Quinn and Ethan just lost their mother who was brutally murdered. They are all together again after several years.Ooh this book was good! I loved how it was written with the chapters being a different person. The suspense was awesome and I found myself yelling Noooo at a certain point in the book. This is a hard book to review without spoiling. And being I'm not the biggest fan of cliffhangers I couldn't give it a full five stars. It left me wanting more much more. Just when you think you like or do not like a person they do something that makes you change your mind. All siblings have certain qualities that you may not like and then just like that something happens to change your mind. I have to say out of all the siblings Ethan and Charley are by far my favorite. I liked the mystery behind their relationships. When they all went home for their mothers funeral it just felt creepy and weird and none of them really showed any emotion. It had me wondering why? Why do these people not seem to be affected by their mothers death like a normal person would? It was even mentioned in the book by a boyfriend that he found it strange...but it was never answered, which just added more mystery to the book for me. Maybe it gets answered in the series??This book kept me on my toes, constantly wondering what was going on. When I had to put it down to do something I quickly picked it back up to get another chapter in and then another and another because the chapters were so short (which I love). On to the boyfriends...Vinnie-what an awful person, but then you read this letter of encouragement to hold on to him. Why?Jordan-Love him (wake up Quinn)!Adrian-skipping for now :/This book was written exceptionally well. The description of the characters was superb I could visualize each and every one of them and got a real sense of their personalities (or so I thought).I'm really looking forward to reading the next book and finding out what happens to this weird mysterious family. I definitely recommend but beware it leaves you hanging.http://triciaciak.blogspot.com/

At first I was not sure if I would like it or not because of the multiple POV but it was amazing!!! I don't want to say much in fear that I will let something slip…lol This book has it all, Drama, suspense, a murder, romance, you name it this book has it! You will not be disappointed with this one!!!!

It’s a different kind of memoir. Hilarious. Troublesome. Risky. Introspective. Revealing. And so wonderfully… human. Brought to you by the author of the widely-acclaimed Single Dad Laughing blog, The All-Important, Well-Fed, Giant White Man will make you laugh as often as it makes you squirm (in all the right ways) as Dan shares his sidesplitting life stories, moments of incredible stupidity, colossal mistakes, and the awesome (albeit sometimes strange) lessons learned through it all. This engaging collection of narratives shines a light on some of the most difficult and most liberating dynamics of the human experience. Dan recounts awkward childhood love, getting his bare butt glued to a log in the woods, setting his family’s house afire, ungloriously handling his first set of knockers, being ratted-out by his child, moments of douchey self-importance, and many other fantastic stories which will keep you flipping pages with wild abandon. Odd religious mandates, betrayal, childhood bullying, a struggle to feel loveable, morbid obesity, self-harm, family and societal pressure, relationship struggles, compulsive dishonesty, dealing with infidelity… All of it led, and often in such comical ways, toward getting healthy and eventually accepting and loving himself as the overly ridiculous, always-faulted, usually-laughing, human he is.

Dan Pearce is one of those writers. He writes his truth so honestly that it is easy to overlook the courage it takes sometimes to tell our own stories. I have always admired that about him as a blogger. This book takes it to a whole other level. I laughed, I cringed, I felt things. I read it in exchange for an honest review. The thought I keep having is that reading this book made me want to be unapologetically myself, because why the heck not?I can't think of a better reason to give a book a five star review. Read it. You won't be sorry.

This book is totally relatable to both men and women. Everyone has an awkward childhood with embarrassing stories and missed opportunities that unfortunately follow us into adulthood. The stories he tells are funny with a lesson learned from each. Most of these lessons we all have to learn at some point in our lives. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a good laugh and a reminder that you are not the only one crazy embarrassing stuff happens to and you are not the only one that needs to grow and learn.

13 of 16 people found the following review helpful. It's fine. By Amazon Customer I gave it three stars... I didn't hate it. If you are a fan of Dan Pearce you will disagree with this rating, as well you should. I am guessing that this book will predominantly be purchased by his fans, making this rating even unfair, but I think it is a reasonable rating. I adored his level of honesty. It was as if you were sitting with your best friend telling stories that you would only tell your best friend full of the words and imagery only used when you can let your guard down for a second. I felt like some of his stories were painful moments that only I would identify with, and that's the wonderful part, he is so honest that all of us who have felt pain, or embarrassment, or have been horrified at the reality of a situation will totally feel like he is speaking to us directly. That's his charm, and it isn't missing from this book. I worry for him. The odd part of being a public figure is that the populace feels like they know you, while the public figure has never met you. Because this book is casual and personal... he's going to get some stalkers... I kind of want to hug him... and cuddle... which might be awkward for him but feel spot on to me.The reason for my missing two stars was the format and flow of the writing. I was expecting a book that flowed from beginning to end with a story arc that resembled a nice roundy hill. Hook me at the beginning, have rising action, then a climax, then bring me down and comfort me a little and then throw in a twist to get my attention at the end... instead... well... instead of going over a glorious mountain it was close to running over some moguls, lots of little bumps. Each chapter was brief and was it's own story. It became odd to repeatedly come to a conclusion ever chapter. It wasn't a page turner that I couldn't put down because I felt like I finished something at the end of every chapter.I also got a little wary of the formula. He would tell a bawdy tale and then finish the chapter with a "what I learned" moment. I think I would've enjoyed more being trusted to learn along with him as I read. It felt a little like an after school special or a little kids show where they didn't quite trust the audience enough to "get it"... well a little kid show with a potty mouth.I appreciated the fact that though he used mature language freely and frequently it was never mean spirited, degrading, or the point of the story. He didn't tell dirty stories for example relying on the fact that they were dirty... It was just refreshingly honest, and not the way we normally feel compelled to communicate.Summary: If you love Dan you will love learning more about him. If you are a book snob... well... we could all relax a little and be better for it, right?I was given a copy of this book before it was announced in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

You'll be reading a darker tale with a twist. In the beginning, don't expect roses and rainbows while you read this one. In this story the heroine really deserved her HEA after all that has happened to her. This story has an awesome conclusion. Read it and find out why.Beware! This story is not for the faint of heart. The heroine, Gretel, in this story has gone through so much and is able to move forward with help. Her life takes an unexpected journey when she decides to start over. Her life didn't prepare her for someone like Wolfrick Sylvan. He picks up the pieces when his mate is in danger.Be prepared to find out that true evil comes in all shapes and sizes.Readers will be seeking more of these types of excellently written and plotted stories. It was entertaining with enough going on that it kept my interest. Readers are in for action, suspense, romance, original storylines, characters with great dialogues wrapped up in a paranormal tale. The settings are vivid. I could imagine a house in the woods or Gretel family.Readers are going to root for the underdog in this story. I feel it deserves 4.5 stars!

All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. ***Many of the classic fairytales enjoyed by children around the world did not originally start out as the sweet Disney-style stories we have come to know today. Such classics as Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, The Little Mermaid, and Rapunzel were dark twisted tales full of abuse, poverty, sex, and violence. I do believe if Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm were alive today, they would approve of Kim Faulks latest retelling of their classic tale!!Hansel and Gretel may be twins by birth, but any other family connection ends right there in this story. Gretel’s father loves and adores her immensely, providing shelter against the storm which is her mother who despises Gretel with a hatred that is pure evil in nature. Her mother never misses an opportunity to torture Gretel in some way which secretly delights her brother Hansel. Hansel on the other hand, shares a strange and twisted relationship with his mother that will have dire consequences for everyone in the story later on.Gretel enjoys taking walks with her father in the peaceful woods surrounding their home. During one of these walks Gretel runs into a beautiful white wolf whom she names “Ghost.” Ghost will become her only friend, confident, and sooo much more later in the story. When their father is suddenly killed while away on a business trip, the twins are forced to grow up fast because the task of managing the estate is now their responsibility. Now we have reached the point in the story where our tale takes a sharp left into the “House of Hansel Horrors” and doesn’t look back! Gretel takes over the running of the kitchen while Hansel manages the rest of the estate, but when the money starts running out, Hansel refuses to sell the estate. Instead, he slowly starts selling off their belongings in an attempt to keep the home. But Hansel is older now and has changed drastically under his mother’s twisted influence. Poor, naïve, Gretel has no idea of the danger she is in or what is living with her. The jealousy once harbored in a little boy’s heart has now manifested itself’s into pure evil; something so sadistic that Hansel has decided to “USE” Gretel, willing or not, in any way he sees fit, for financial gain.Don’t worry Gretel has a mysterious protector who will save her eventually but until then, she suffers amazing cruelty and dark, twisted, perversions courtesy of her brother. I found myself cheering for Gretel all the way to the end telling her to hang on, don’t give up, you can survive this, just a little bit longer, help is on the way. This was a hell of a rollercoaster ride for my emotions and I LOVED it!! Kim Faulks is a talented writer who has the ability to pull me into the story emotionally and keep me on the edge of my seat until the very end.To me, Gretel is a tale about survival that doesn’t walk that fine line between good and evil. It dives straight into the heart of pure evil and only you can decide whether or not it’s a journey you’re willing to take. Kim has written a brilliant and masterful dark tale that will stay with me for quite some time. I highly recommend this book if you love well written paranormal erotica that is both dark and twisted while maintaining an equal balance of intensity and suspense. I cannot wait for the next release in The Submissively Ever After Series!!

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very dark side of romance By Pam Louis This is darker then a normally read and parts are a bit disturbing. It does have a happy ending but that is the light at the end. The story is about 2 twins Hansel and gretel but don't think bread crumbs and gingerbread houses but this is a dark and twisted tail. Gretel only had the love of her father, her brother even tried kill her on one outing it was the same time she meet her shape shifting wolf "ghost"On one of her father's trips he was killed leaving gretel at the mercy of her mom and brother, they had none.Ghost told Gretel that he needed to go way on a job for 3 months but when he hot back they do all the things they had planed. But in that 3 month time Hansel sunk into so much evilness and hatred for his sister he was selling her to make money and food.Once I started reading this u couldn't put it down so sad so dark and then there is light with ghostWarning I did find parts disturbing and twisted and it wasn't what I thought it was going to be but it was amazingly written and everything can't be always happy and sunny so there you have my review hope it helpsBook gifted for an honest review

Now a major motion picture! Emmeline Pankhurst was a leader of the British suffrage movement in a critical era—the early 1900's—and helped women win the right to vote. Although reviled by many for the violent tactics that she eventually adopted, including arson, she was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century. In this fascinating autobiography, originally published as "My Own Story", Pankhurst details the story of the women's suffrage movement, including the escalating battle between activists and the government, her multiple stints in prison, hunger strikes, and forced feeding. This books has been carefully proofread and curated for quality. It includes all original illustrations, and is customized for display on the Kindle. Excerpt: This vague feeling of mine began to shape itself into conviction about the time my brothers and I were sent to school. The education of the English boy, then as now, was considered a much more serious matter than the education of the English boy's sister. My parents, especially my father, discussed the question of my brothers' education as a matter of real importance. My education and that of my sister were scarcely discussed at all. Of course we went to a carefully selected girls' school, but beyond the facts that the head mistress was a gentlewoman and that all the pupils were girls of my own class, nobody seemed concerned. A girl's education at that time seemed to have for its prime object the art of "making home attractive"—presumably to migratory male relatives. It used to puzzle me to understand why I was under such a particular obligation to make home attractive to my brothers. We were on excellent terms of friendship, but it was never suggested to them as a duty that they make home attractive to me. Why not? Nobody seemed to know. The answer to these puzzling questions came to me unexpectedly one night when I lay in my little bed waiting for sleep to overtake me. It was a custom of my father and mother to make the round of our bedrooms every night before going themselves to bed. When they entered my room that night I was still awake, but for some reason I chose to feign slumber. My father bent over me, shielding the candle flame with his big hand. I cannot know exactly what thought was in his mind as he gazed down at me, but I heard him say, somewhat sadly, "What a pity she wasn't born a lad." My first hot impulse was to sit up in bed and protest that I didn't want to be a boy, but I lay still and heard my parents' footsteps pass on toward the next child's bed. I thought about my father's remark for many days afterward, but I think I never decided that I regretted my sex. However, it was made quite clear that men considered themselves superior to women, and that women apparently acquiesced in that belief.

Megan Vandemeer meant to tell her parents about her broken engagement, but a month and a half later she finds herself boarding a plane home to her wedding. Having stretched avoidance to its limits, it's time to come clean - a terrifying prospect since her mother is sure to blame her rather than her cheating, emotionally frigid ex. A couple of drinks and two Dramamine later, Megan finds herself spilling her sob story to the tall, dark, and handsome stranger in the seat next to her. With only one week left to save his business, Josh McMillan boards a plane to Kansas City in a last-ditch effort, leaving the details to chance. An unexpected answer is delivered in the form of the beautiful brunette beside him. Though she's completely loopy, her honesty, openness, and humor charm him. So when she passes out before landing, he helps her off the plane - a good deed that leads to a colossal misunderstanding. Her parents assume that he's her fiancé. In a twist of fate, the mix-up might help Josh save his business, so he plays along, figuring that he can help Megan too. All he has to do is stage a public break-up convincing enough to appease her mother. Josh is only supposed to be a substitute groom, but the more time he and Megan spend together, the more their pretend engagement starts to feel real, and the less they want to break it off. Can a relationship that began as a farce turn into happily ever after?

A fantastically funny, emotional, dramatic read By I Feel the Need, the Need to Read book blog *I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.*The premise of this book is that Megan is going home to her own wedding but without the groom. She meets a man on the airplane and because of her being impaired, he is assumed to be the groom. They each let the ruse go on because it benefits them both.I knew this was going to be a very funny, emotional, dramatic story. There are quite a few laugh out loud moments and moments where you are trying to figure out exactly what is going on. Denise does a great job of foreshadowing in the story, but not so much that you know what the outcome is. You try to guess what you think is going to happen, but when it is revealed, you didn't have a clue.I like stories like this that have the mystery mixed in with the rest of the elements of the story. It keeps me glued to the pages and wanting to read. I actually stayed up all night reading this because once I got into it, I needed to find out what was going to happen. I had to no idea as to where the story was going to go and I just had to keep reading.Even though this story has more sex in it than I like, it was done tastefully and was not metaphor-ridden and silly. The moments were intimate and sexy and did not induce any eye-rolling by me, which is a great feat with sex scenes!

Davis The Wedding Pact is a new favorite series after reading The Substitute!Megan Vandemeer boards a flight home for her wedding, but the problem is she broke up with Jay six weeks ago when she found him cheating with his secretary. Too frightened to confess to her domineering and hard-to-please mother, she heads towards Kansas City with the intent to tell her in person.Josh McMillan boards the fight to Kansas City on a last ditch effort to save his family business. He's looking for the person responsible for stealing his design leading to the rejection of his patent. The business will fail in a matter of days without answers. Leaving it up to fate, he sits down next to Megan only to inadvertently become her savior when she mixes dramamine and alcohol, passing out on the flight. The next thing he knows, he's meeting her family after passing himself off as her fiancé so he can get her off of the plane. When he realizes he is meeting the very man he suspects to have his design, how can he help but continue the charade? What is not to love about this story? The humor is absolutely worth laughing out loud! I can't tell you how many times I found myself laughing at the one-liners and banter between the characters. Megan and Josh are evenly matched in wit, and the sparks between them only enhance the chemistry making a couple that you want to root for.I fell in love with Megan's Gram immediately. This quirky, eccentric lady will have you in stitches with her antics. Every family needs a Gram to keep everyone in line and keep them on their toes! The friendship between Megan, Libby, and Blair is longstanding. These girls have a connection formed by two decades of history, and they all want to see Megan happy. Blair is fiercely protective, and Libby is full of hope and doesn't mind conspiring to pave the way for Josh to stay in the picture. You can't help but ride the roller coaster of emotions as Josh struggles with having to choose between his growing attraction to Megan and the responsibility of the people who work for his company. So much rides on him, but can he really follow through with plans that will inevitably hurt Megan? You can feel his struggle as he oscillates from both ends of the spectrum.Whether you have read anything by Denise Grover Swank or not, this book is worth every page you turn. I can't wait for the second and third books to find out what happens with The Wedding Pact!

26 of 27 people found the following review helpful. Lighthearted funny romance story By Kelly Maldia The Substitute is an adult contemporary romance by Denise Grover Swank. It is the first in The Pact Series. It is told from the POV of Josh and Megan. The premise behind The Pact Series is that three girls, Megan, Blair, and Libby, make a wedding pact to get married by 30, at the age of 9. They went to see a fortune teller and she said that they would not marry who they thought they should and their weddings would be a disasters. The books description of The Substitute is very accurate. Megan and Josh are brought together by fate and find love where they least expect it.The story about Megan and Josh is funny, lighthearted and cute. It was an easy read. But to be honest, the first 53% didn’t do it for me. It was good but I was not hooked. I could easily put it down and go back. Around 72%, I became hooked. The last 28% was awesome. I wish I would have been hooked through the entire book. Please don’t send me hate mail. I liked the story but was not in love with it. It didn’t have that pull/heat/spark I like in couples, especially if they go from strangers to love in 4 days. I think it is worth the read if you want a lighthearted funny romance story.

Stories from History's Dust Bin is a 3-volume set of historical vignettes, each volume containing over 120 short stories, each of which can be read in fifteen minutes or less. The books make perfect companions for travel, relaxing near the pool, great substitutes for in-flight magazines, and ideal for those times when you're stuck in the doctor's waiting room. The books feature the unusual, such as the story of Mary Toft who, in 1726, had a lot of folks, including members of King George's court, convinced she had given birth to nine rabbits; and the story of Franz Haydn, the Father of Music, whose head was stolen after his death in 1809, and remained so for 145 years before being reunited with its body, and the story about Larry Walters, who in 1982, "slipped the surly bonds of earth," in a Sears & Roebuck lawn chair, to which were affixed 45 army surplus helium balloons. After leveling off, two pilots (TWA & Delta) radioed the Long Beach, California, tower that a guy in a lawn chair had just smiled and waved to them at 16,000 feet. Those are but three of the 366 stories contained in the set.

By karen watkins This book is a fun travel through time with many stories of real people dancing across the reader's mind. We enjoyed the many stories that are so different but fascinating. It is easy to pick up for a few minutes and find an interesting story.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. a feast of feats and fun facts By Aurelia McNeil, Freelance Editor Stories from History's Dust Bin is like pizza to a typical child. Three volumes of amusing anecdotes and discoveries are a delightful treat. Like toppings, the reader can pick whichever stories are of interest or choose them all. Thin-crusted scoop such as Elizabeth Taylor's double eyelashes, the friendship of Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass, the real "Alice" and inspiration of Alice in Wonderland, and the two Harrison Fords of show business is delivered along with the thick-crusted details of Daniel Hale Williams who performed the first successful open heart surgery, Joseph Neipce who invented the world's first internal combustible engine, and Lillian Asplund, the last American survivor of the Titanic.Readers can chew bite-sized snacks of information such as Paul Erdös who could calculate anyone's age in seconds, Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley who photographed and catalogued over 5,000 snowflakes, Mary Fields who was the first African-American woman to work for the U.S. Postal Service, and many more. Arranged in date order, the stories are one to three pages and end with a quote.I highly recommend that everyone read and relish Stories from History's Dust Bin as it is a feast of feats and fun facts.Summarizing quote: "Some of what you will find will be uplifting, some humorous, some sad and yet others, thought provoking, but all of it interesting." -- Wayne Winterton, Ph.D.

I fun way to start the day By Chip IN our house at the breakfast table every morning we now read the story of the day from Winterton's book for that date. We then go on-line and look at photos, websites, video clips, and artwork about these folks which usually leads to a discussion about people, places, and times gone by. I fun way to start the day! I highly recommend the entire series so you can add something special to your daily routine.

Engrossing By Ruth Finnegan A wonderful mind-opening account based on family records, historical sources and realistically imagined thoughts and conversations. This moving love story is set in the searing (and true) events of the Huguenot persecutions and massacres in France. The end is the more touching for its unsentimentality and strict adherence to the historical sources, leaving all the more - as novels so seldom do - to the rich embroidery of the human imagination.Beautifully written and characterised, down to all the little telling details, and most highly recommended.

The Land of the Blue Flower, by Frances Hodgson Burnett

Review "A beautiful boy, the offspring of royal parents, grows up and is crowned king of a sad land that only he can lead to the path of peace and prosperity.

Hodgson Burnett has received much praise over the last century for "Little Lord Fauntleroy" and "The Secret Garden," but this story has slumbered in obscurity for more than 80 years. It was resuscitated by Griffith, who received a dusty copy from a friend a few years back.

The book has a New Age message of peace and cooperation that's in keeping with its publisher's usual fare, but no one can deny the timeliness of the story's message: Anger deflects us from the important tasks we face." -- Press-Telegram, February 7, 1994"Sure to put stars into a young person's eyes." -- NQ, NAPRA ReVIEW, Holiday Issue 1993"The Land of the Blue Flower" by Frances Hodgson Burnett, a classic story which has been out of print since 1938, weaves the magical tale of Amor, a young king who is orphaned. The book develops the theme of living in harmony with nature and demonstrates the healing power of love." --Science of Mind, August 1994

From the Publisher To our readers: The books we publish are our contribution to an emerging world based on cooperation rather than on competition, on affirmation of the human spirit rather than on self-doubt, and on the certainty that all humanity is connected. Our goal is to touch as many lives as possible with a message of hope for a better world.--Hal and Linda Kramer, Publishers

About the Author Frances Hodgson Burnett was a born storyteller. Even as a young child, her greatest pleasure was in making up stories and acting them out, using her dolls as characters. She wrote over forty books, including the classic A Little Princess, also illustrated by Tasha Tudor.

"Blue Flowers" = Life, Love & Beauty By A Customer This charming fairytale by the author of the beloved _Secret Garden_ is not just for children, but is a kind of "spiritual tonic" for folks of all ages. Ever since discovering HJKramer's magical edition, I have turned to _Blue Flower_ during times of spiritual or physical depletion and have always felt uplifted and enlivened by its positive message and exquisite artwork. The book came to me in a strange, "Heaven-directed" way, during a time of immense grief over the death of a relative. I was ripe for its insightful messages that, "If you fill your mind with a beautiful thought, there will be no room for an ugly one"; and "There is no time for anger..." I have always been bolstered by this particular edition, so gracefully illustrated by Judith Ann Griffith, and over the years have gifted a few special souls, adults and children alike, with copies of this delightful book. The "blue flowers" at the heart of the story have gradually become a sort of shorthand-code between me and cherished friends/relatives; and on special occasions, we sometimes exchange "blue flowers" as a colorful reminder of truths taught in Frances Hodgson Burnett's tale. The "blue-flower code" is simple and speaks directly to the heart, saying, "We choose love, life, and joy over fear, bitterness, and grudges." (Given current global upheavals and conflicts, maybe certain folks in High Places would do well to read this little book and internalize its simple truths.)_The Land of the Blue Flower_ is very enthusiastically recommended for hearts of all ages, and Kramer's gorgeous edition is sure to become a family favorite.

By A Customer Though the story carries a brilliant message of hope for us all, if we can affirm our connection with the earth, it is the lovely illustrations that bring home this heart-felt promise. On almost every page of this classic tale the artist has embellished the authors words with delightful and imaginative representations of the story. For a timeless message of hope treat your children and yourself to this book.

The version she read was a beautiful picture book with pages and pictures as wonderful as the story. She had earned a treat and only wanted this book.Let me just say how disappointing it is to open a box and find a small, flimsy paperback with not one, single picture! The cover pictured is the actual book cover and inside is small type covering pages with small margins. Only half of the pages are even printed; the book ends just over half-way through the pages of the book. This is a beautiful story, and I realize that this is a rare publication, but it is still a letdown to find such a book especially at this price.

Life dealt Bill Schreiber the unexpected. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, it was at the tender age of sixteen that Bill discovered traveling. A cross country bus trip to visit his high school friend opened up a flood of emotions. He was scared at being out in the world on his own, sad because he missed his family and girlfriend, but excited to be exploring the country. This was the beginning of a lifetime filled with travel, experiencing other countries, their cultures, customs, and religions. A year after high school graduation, Bill and his friend Steve embarked on a year long trip through Europe. Leaving with only clothes, and a little money in their pockets, they made their way through many countries. They learned how to read maps, speak other languages and survive situations they'd never even imagined. The Vietnam war was in full swing, claiming some of Bill's friends. He didn't believe in the war's cause so studying in Germany provided a temporary deferment. A year after returning to the states Bill received a letter drafting him into the army. The military had finally caught up with Bill. In 1967 while serving in the army, Bill met his soul mate. Janey would become a part of his heart and soul for the remainder of his days. There was heartache and turmoil but through it all a beautiful relationship grew. For thirty-eight years Bill held Janey in his heart, even when life would pull them in different directions. Whether it was talking to Janey on the phone, receiving a letter from her or holding her in his arms, Bill would always be taken back to that beautiful day when they met in 1967.

Amazing & Touching Story By Steven Campbell Having gotten to know Bill from his days as Ranger at Coolidge State, I knew of the tragic loss of his wife Janey but I had no idea of all his amazing travels throughout the world. Bill shares these vivid stories along with his deep personal emotions about losing Janey but also meeting his only daughter after 31 years. Well worth the read to learn about this extraordinary man.

Albert Fish held the genuine belief that the murders he committed were upon instruction from God. Peter Stumpp, who started practising the "wicked arts from twelve years of age", was convinced he was a werewolf. There are many more murderous individuals like them. Supernatural Serial Killers explores the association between serial killers and the supernatural. The crimes committed by these men and women usually involved sexual deviance, cannibalism and violence toward children. In sixteenth century Europe, the problem became so significant that 'Werewolf Witch Trials' were conducted - many have no idea that it was possible to be tried and convicted for the crime of being a Werewolf, but Lycanthropy was a serious and major social concern in the 1500s. In this book, approximately twenty supernatural serial killers are discussed, including their background, crimes, trials and defences.

Real stories of gruesome murders spanning centuries By Diane Lynch I would like to thank Netgalley and author Samantha Lyon for my copy in exchange for a fair and honest review. This book covers 16 different serial killers and their stories. The format is well organized . The beginning of the book clearly sets up the rest of the book. Explanations of what makes a serial killer. Explanations of what label goes with which type of killer. A typology is explained and each of the killers is examined to see where they fit into that typology. These killers were chosen because their crimes were so gruesome. In some way, each killer is linked with the beliefs people have about vampires or were wolfs. These 16 monsters span from the 16th to the 20th centuries and come from various parts of the world. Since this book covers such a large time period the reader also watches the justice systems mature to what they've become today. In the 16th century people were actually convicted of being a witch, vampire or were wolf. No witches are covered in this book. The book brings up good points for these beliefs as well. Each chapter covers one killer in chronological order. First background information about the killers life leading up to their serial killing. The crimes are described next. The trial and outcome follows. Finally the discussion where the analysis takes place. By putting these 16 criminals in this structure it is possible to really look at not only the killer but the society he/she exists in. No two are ever the same. There are similarities that you will see because of this format. These chapters contain just the facts. You get what you need to understand these types of killers. It was an exciting book to read. Many of these serial killers I've never heard of. A few I know to well. Many of them I will be reading more about. I immediately jumped into a book based on the first one covered.

Interesting and Well Researched By The Invisible Pam ~ ebook provided by Netgalley which means this is a review of an Advanced Reading CopyBack when I was a ridiculously young-adult and was considering being an author I did a good deal of reading about toxins and murderers. Long after I abandoned that most inappropriate career option I found myself still interested in the subject, not so much from a morbid curiosity in the grisly details, but because I could not for one second put myself in their place. I couldn't grasp how anyone could become so ghoulish, and as I'm eternally fascinated by the spectrum of human conditions, books in the serial killer vain still catch my attention. Now I haven't read a book about serial killers in some time, but the title of this book caught my eye and piqued my interest. What did the authors mean by 'supernatural'. Were they referring to something like possession? Did they find that serial killers believed in the supernatural? What in the world did the 'other realm' have to do with unbalanced individuals??The truth is that the Supernatural aspect of the material is almost superfluous. It doesn't have to do with the motivation of the perps as much as it gives the reader a historical framework for how the general populace perceives the actions of these rare individuals. For in the place of any understanding of such heinous crimes people throughout history have resorted to Vampire and Werewolf tales to explain away the aberration that is the serial killer. Even into modern times.~Samantha Lyon's and Dr Daphne Tan's book is well researched. And one of the aspects of the book that I enjoyed was their attempt to locate ancient evidence of the existence of serial killers. And so the 16 chapters, each dedicated to an individual, begins in the mid-1500s with the 'Werewolves of Poligny', and proceeds throughout the centuries until Jack Spillman III, the 'Werewolf Butcher', circa 1995.*note that those with squeamish tummies should probably resist this book. Those who are curious about serial killers will get a solid overview of the subject. Lyon's and Tan's book isn't just a salacious effort. They make the attempt to explain and understand some of the common factors that can be found in the backgrounds of this type of criminal. [Did you know that head injuries are a common factor?] And they examine each individual using that categorization/typology of Holmes and DeBurger. It's this latter that I think is a little weak. The discussion was lighter than I would have wanted, but probably appropriate for most readers. I can't help it, I tend to lean a little to the academic. If this topic is within your reading categories you might certainly want to pick up SUPERNATURAL SERIAL KILLERS. It was an entertaining and informative read.-- ebook review copy provided by publisher

This book is bizarre, the crimes and killers described are perverse and unsettling, and overall I thought it was fascinating By Kyle Robertson This book is bizarre, the crimes and killers described are perverse and unsettling, and overall I thought it was a fascinating read. There are sixteen real life monsters profiled, of which I was only really familiar with two of them. The authors state that the aim of the book is to investigate serial killers with a link to the supernatural, whether it be that the killers themselves felt an affinity with a creature of myth or whether they were assigned this link by society and the media. The first part of the book, titled "Why Killers Kill", discusses possible factors that can contribute to the development of certain tendencies for those that are profiled. The authors state "some obvious patterns or themes emerge which link the serial killers discussed in this book...some of them, for example, suffered head injuries, which have been shown in neurological studies to correlate with the subsequent development of aggressive behavior. Many of them suffered problems with sexual dysfunction or impotence during their formative years and their murders subsequently demonstrated a great deal of sexual frustration and sexual violence. A good number of them were struggling with mental illness of various forms, whether or not they went on to be judged as legally insane. They very often had unfortunate, even traumatizing, childhoods."Each profile provides an introduction of the killer which examines their childhood, teenage years, and their life leading up to the beginning of their crime sprees. Most serial killers begin in their late teens and twenties, but some in this book were much older at the time they began. Next, the chapter goes into detail about the actual crimes committed, as far as the research is available. Then comes the trial and sentencing portion, which explains the capture, questioning, trial, and sentencing. The final section for each profile provides a discussion about the psychological and criminal background, including possible mental health issues. This provides great insight into the mind of each killer, as the authors attempt to classify each one using the Holmes and DeBurger typology. This book is extensively researched, and I would recommend it to all true crime fans, but not to those that are easily offended by gory details and depictions of the crimes committed, many of which involve children. I received this as a free ARC from Arcturus Publishing on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The perfect Mormon Bishop?

Or the perfect Mormon SOCIOPATH?

Church credentials are not sufficient reason to trust anyone, as the child of a “Called-of-God” Mormon Bishop reveals in this painful coming of age family saga.

Walton W. Hunter was a charismatic man with his own business, Hunter Motor Company, and a pillar of the Mormon Community in Salt Lake City.

He was also a sociopath and a pedophile.

Deliver Us From Evil is a disturbing and horrifying account of this abuse from the perspective of Walton Hunter’s daughter, Deborah. But it is also a story of overcoming the terrifying circumstances of her abusive childhood.

By Yankeelin OHHHhhhhhhh the far-reaching and lasting effects of sexual abuse..... The child / person is victimized not only by the self-absorbed perpetrator, but is more often than not, shamed into a guilt-ridden silence when reaching out for help. Makes one emotionally stilted AND stunted. Having the same last name is coincidental, but the author and i do have much in common. Deliver Us From Evil took a lot of guts to write, a lot of heart, an opening up to vulnerability that is mind boggling to me.This story is heart wrenchingly frustrating to read at times, you just wanna reach in and shake some of the characters. Deliver Us From Evil....hmmmmm. The evil acts may eventually end but the evil itself seeps far deeper, and much further than one could imagine.

By Amazon Customer For those who have been through life-shattering child abuse, Deborah is someone who understands the difficulty in sustaining healthy relationships thereafter and the arduous journey it takes to return to wholeness. For those who fortunately escaped such experiences, she gives insight into a world of pain for those living in victimization—not only by the perpetrator(s), but also by those who act in disbelief and who wish to silence them rather than offer support. The inability to find safe confidantes, keeps them isolated, imprisoned in silence. This material, though tragically intimate, is dealt with delicately and ultimately with hope and possibilities for a healthy future. She shares her successes and her failures with equal candor, as well as the tools she used to move out of the darkness.Deborah gives a list of resources as support for others, as well as evidence that there can be life after trauma and deliverance from (even during) evil.

I hugely admire what Deborah Hunter-Marsh did by writing this book, breaking the veil of silence isn’t easy and for me came with a hefty price but I don’t regret it for a second. Deborah Hunter-Marsh took that a step further. I think your bravery is legendry and without people like you that are willing to write and publish so many of us would live in a world of isolation. For me books like yours help remove that feeling of isolation and are incredibly helpful and for that I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
