A very gentle, optimistic story By Katerina Delidimou a.k.a. culinaryflavors.gr Delicate Dreams is a very romantic, gentle novel full of true characters. How does anyone feel when dramatic changes happen in his/her life? How does he/she cope with them? How important is friendship and how difficult it is to overcome hardships? All these are situations that this book deals with and approaches them with a very sensitive, delicate way. As a food blogger I really appreciated the fact that food is an inextricable part of the story and it is the excuse fo many beautiful things that happen. I enjoyed each and every page and I recommend it to anyone who believes in life!

I love this book that answered the back history of the character's.This was well written from the beginning to the end and a Journey of the fairie realm, werewolves, elves, dwarves, wood nymphs and the humans experience. The beautiful 500 year old Adrah Everstar is to be queen and betrothed to comander of the army Magnus Lockmoore. Future king to Adrah Everstar. She sneaks away to fly on her owl named Grimka. She lands in the woods and meets Magnus. He is tall, with blond hair and green eyes. Oh my this guy must be sexy..He steals a kiss from her. Will she choose her duty to protect her people or fall in love with Magnus and have passion for one another? Snow White eats a poison apple and is put in a deep sleep. She is awakened by a kiss from prince charming and marries him.They conceive a boy. Will she have the happy ever after she desires or a marriage from hell.The evil queen Eranna Ravenmoore steals the essence of beautiful girls to keep her beauty alive. The queen send the huntsman after Snow White to kill her and bring her heart but instead he falls in love with Snow White.Will they have a love affair and the happiness that Snow White deserves? Jacob Grimm is a treasure hunter who meets the beautiful queen Ares from the wood nymphs. So much history about Fallada enclosed within By Kristy Heinicke I'm going to treat this collection, like I do when I review boxsets/anthologies & review each story within....A King Named Magnus...I found this tale to be bitter sweet (if you have yet to read 'Daughter of the Red Dawn' you wont understand). I love the Adrah of the future & to read how she met & fell in love with her king was beautiful. Also reading about Adrah just as she accepts her crown & becomes the Fae Queen, was wonderful, she is full of uncertanties, wondering if she is the Fae to lead her people. The dynamics between Magnus & Adrah at the start is what you would expect, but then who would want to meet the man they are to marry a fornight before?? I absolutely LOVED reading "A King Named Magnus"!!The Huntsman and I...In this tale, Alicia gives us a version of Snow White that answers alot of WHAT IF's... like what would life be like after the prince kissed Snow awake?? after the wedding?? would Snow really live happily ever after?? what is the prince REALLY like?? In "The Huntsman and I" we find out exactly what happens & how Snow's life is like after the deed, I wont give anything away, you will have to read this to find out for yourself, but I will say I LOVED the twist at the end... but now I want to know the rest of the story.The Nymph Queen...This is the extended tale, a more indepth tale from 'Child of the Sacred Earth' & what a tale this is, filled with a darkness that wasn't portrayed in the book. I can honestly say I had tears at one point, poor Queen Ares' life is filled with so much order & has no purpose to it, then with the news from the prophets well she has no reason either. Jack Grimm stops her at a time in her life when she's at her lowest... Things progress & you get to see a happy, carefree Ares but only for a time... Thank you Alicia for giving us the entire tale, I loved it.Fallada's Last Stand: The Fall of King Magnus...Ummm I'm not sure I want to read this... but I'll go on... Damn, what an emotional read this was, the tears just didn't have a chance to stop. We got to see how the relationship between Magnus & Adrah had blossomed, also we got to see a younger Rothatin & how he became General & advisor to Queen Adrah. It wasn't during happy times either. This was set just before the decission to seal Fallada from the world of men, it wasn't an easy task for those left behind. We also got a glimpse of just how powerful Queen Adrah is, I'd hate be on her bad side.My overall experience reading the histories of Fallada was enchanting, I was enthralled by the stories within I LOVED every minute of them, including those parts that made me cry. Now I can't wait to read what comes next in the series of "The Lost Kingdon of Fallada"....

Each story is rich and vibrant and oh so amazing!!The four short stories give so much background to her series. I love Queen Adrah and hope that she gets her own book with the series, but I loved the background of who she is and what has led her to how she rules her kingdom. Then the story of Jacob Grimm beautiful and touching. It cleared up a lot of things for Child of the Sacred Earth.This is definitely a must read for this extraordinary series. I loved each one of the tales and absolutely can't wait to read more of the beautiful kingdom of Fallada.

The fifth Oz book... by no means the best By Blake Petit "The Road to Oz" is the fifth book in what is perhaps the greatest fantasy series of all time.. however, it's not really a book I'd recommend to show people how wonderful the series really is. At this point it seems that Baum was getting a little weary, and it shows, as this book has almost no discernable plot or conflict at all. Dorothy, again, gets lost in a fairyland, and again makes her way to the Emerald City, assembling a small band of strange and endearing characters along the way -- the same as she'd done three times before. What made this a weak entry is that there was no sense of urgency here. Dorothy was never worried, she knew as soon as she found Ozma she'd have a way home, there was no villain... by the time she made it to the Emerald City the book had been liberally dotted with references to how everyone in Oz loved one another and nobody was ever mean -- unless, of course, you're a wicked witch, but they had both long been vanquished at this point.The land of Oz is built on strange situations and characters, but also on story. In the original "Wizard of Oz," Dorothy and her friends faced the witch, hoping to send her home. In "The Land of Oz," Pip had to deal with an entire invasion of the Emerald City. In "Ozma of Oz" there was the wonderful story of the rescue of the Royal Family of Ev.By book four, "Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz," Baum seemed to have run out of plots and contented himself, in these few volumes, with just bringing in new characters and not bothering to craft a story around them. In book six, "The Emerald City of Oz," he took the step of placing Dorothy in Oz permanently, which was probably the best thing he'd ever done, because later volumes no longer needed to concern themselves with finding ways to get to Oz and just told really wonderful fantasy stories. ("Tik-Tok of Oz" is still my favorite in the series.")The Oz books, in toto (no pun intended), are wonderful for people of any age, but this installment is really for completists only.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. a grand evocation of a child's birthday party By marcabru As noted by some other reviewers Road to Oz doesn't conform to the usual requirements of a fairy tale such as a quest or continual action adventure. However, I believe Baum was aiming at something different here, namely, evoking the wonder, anticipation and shared excitement that young children feel at a birthday party (the point of the book is the celebration of Ozma's birthday). The first edition of the book was even printed with paper of different colors like the colored paper used for decorations. In these terms, Road to Oz is perhaps one of the best written of the Oz series with very few false notes or awkward characters. The characters of Button Bright, Polychrome, the Shaggy Man and Johnny DoIt are particularly good. Actually there is a quite a bit of action and adventure before Dorothy and her companions arrive in Oz. The transformations of Button-Bright and the Shaggy Man into fox and donkey respectively, while straight out of Classical myth, have an unusual twist: their motivation stems not from malice or the Gods' sport, but rather from the transformer's inability of seeing more than one standard of beauty. Once in Oz, Baum handles the pageantry and socializing in deft fashion for a children's story. In short, an essential part of the Oz series.

Weakest of the series, but still enjoyable By David Michael Cohen Everyone has their favorite Oz novel, but of the 14 which Baum wrote, this one is, in my opinion, the weakest. Unlike other Oz books there is little in the way of plot. This makes reading it uncomfortable as the reader spends most of the book waiting for somehting to happen, only to realize at the end that nothing happened. Also, I loved the tense yet humorus situations Baum masterfully set up in the other books. I rorared with laughter in the second book when Jelia Jamb "translated" for the scarecrow and Jack Pumpkinhead. The trial from book four and Dorothy's capture by the people of Utensia in book six also made me laugh while also clutching the book with fascination. There are no comperable scenes in "Road to Oz" and this is sorely missed.However, the book is still worth reading. For one thing it introduces the Shaggy Man, who proves to be a most enjoyable character. The Shaggy Man carries a device called the love magnet, which causes people who see it to love him. This subplot introduces a very mature and though-provoking conflict. Is it right to enchant people into loving? Is this a power that one person, even a well-intentioned one, can hold alone? What are the drawbacks of being loved by everyone? This subplot held my interest and made the story readable.Finally, there are cameo appearances in the end from many of Baum's non-Oz books. Clearly these appearances are a plug for his other works. One cannot fault him too much for doing this though. Baum wrote many fine books which had nothing to do with Oz, and this needs to be remembered.Despite this book's weakness, it did not signal the decline of the series. Most of the later books were quite good, and I found "The Tin Woodsman of Oz" (number 12) to be one of the best. Keep reading, as altogether there is nothing like the Oz series.

A page-turner of a book By Spyros In “First Adam” we follow the adventures of Omo, who apparently is the first modern human—the first ever Homo sapiens. Born from a Homo erectus couple, we find him living far away from the parents he has never known. After a series of tragic events he decides that it’s about time he found them.Omo’s entire life’s journey puts a twist on the very well-known story of Adam and Eve, by showing that the Biblical tale could ultimately have originated from it—with a great deal of distortion happening in the millennia that were to follow, of course. All the familiar elements are there, however: the Creation; the lush environment of the Garden of Eden, with its four rivers; the forbidden fruit; Satan’s beguilement of Eve to eat the fruit, and her convincing Adam, in turn, to do the same; God’s discovery that they had violated his commands and their consequent expulsion from the Garden of Eden; Cain killing Abel, the Flood, etc.Plus, interwoven seamlessly into the fabric of the story are various relevant myths that have also passed down into western civilization and culture: the Greek tale of Orestes and Eurydice (when Abena is about to die); the myth of Prometheus stealing the fire from the gods (which gives Omo the inspiration on how to create fire); Midas’s Touch myth—relevantly changed here into producing meat, instead of gold (to condemn greed and pride); the combination of the Pandora’s box story with that of Jason and Medea (to highlight the essence of curiosity and evil), Atlantis, and many others.All in all, it is an extremely well-written, well-researched, page-turner of a book.I highly recommend it!

Up until the end of the 9th Chapter (about a third through), although well written, it made me think that it would be a slow and tiring book all the way to the end. Boy was I wrong! After that point I literally could not put it down.Its theme (even though very controversial) is that it’s an alternative way that the Adam and Eve story of Genesis could have evolved, in order to reach us. I’m not saying I agree, but the sheer imagination that is evident in this book is something you do not find often. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The author was able to ‘paint’ in my mind not only their entire world, but also the emotions, thoughts and aspirations of all the characters. That is no small achievement.A very intelligent book.

About the Author William Diebold spent two years and three months in Vietnam as a photographer from 1969 to 1971. Following that he attended and graduated from Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles and was hired by Leo Burnett Inc. upon graduation to manage a studio in Chicago. After one year he went out on his own eventually spending twenty-five years as an advertising photographer with studios in Chicago and Dallas. He was fortunate to enjoy success during those years with a client list that includes many major clients such as Kelloggs, Little Ceasars, Pillsbury, Bud Light, Sam Adams, Pepsi, etc. He was an advertising photographer in Chicago at a time during the 1980’s when the industry was at the dawn of major changes brought on by the revolution of personal computers, digital media and the Internet. It was an exciting, portentous time and he still has the opinion that Chicago, the city and its wonderful people, is the best-kept secret in the country. He is currently a high school teacher living in Southern California and teaching digital imaging. He firmly believes that his love for teaching is based on his prior success and self-fulfillment as a professional photographer. By Elizabeth Largent This was on of the most riveting books that I have read in a very long time. This book was a "page turner" that defied you to put it down. There never seemed to be a break in the action.I had previously read Mr. Diebold's "Thap Cham" and found to be an exceptional book however, I believe that his second book is even better and hope to hear that he is working on a third novel.

I read that one first and this takes up where that one leaves off. I enjoyed the visuals that each author brought into the plot to make it come alive. The characters were real and relatable. The book was a perfect summer read for when I wanted a great story, but didn't have a lot of time.

By Karen Wright Summer Brides is part of a "Year of Weddings" collection so these 3 novellas featured the June, July and August Brides.The stories were straight up romance - small town, country-living love stories. I wouldn't normally choose this genre but I wanted to fulfill a category in my reading challenge and I'm glad I pushed through. It was quite enjoyable and a typical summer book with easy characters who all fall in love at first sight and get married at the end.Overall, I enjoyed how the 3 stories stayed true to the theme and were so cohesive, they seemed to be written by the same author.Not my usual genre but it's nice to read something different every now and then.
