It's not always a favorite genre of mine, since there is usually so much violence attached to these stories. However, I am so glad I picked up Nine Minutes. The author took the time to develop her characters and present a storyline that was not only gripping but completely believable.This very unconventional love story of Kit (aka Ginny) and Grizz caught me completely off guard. She comes to be with him by being kidnapped one day in front of a Florida convenience store. Being a naive 15 year old, she takes off on a motorcycle with a complete stranger and is quickly made part of a motorcycle gang by the name of Satan's Army. When she is made Grizz's responsibility and then ultimately his wife, who the MC's leader, she finds that her life becomes more loving and more comfortable than anything she had experienced in her prior life. And all of that comes as a complete surprise to Kit who falls madly in love with her husband but would never like his business lifestyle.Wow. Just wow. This book is so much more than just your typical biker story. You become completely immersed in each and every characters worlds. The group has so many fascinating facets and at times it's like you are reading more than book! Getting to know about this dark, violent world had me gasping more times than I can count, laughing from surprise at the simplicity of Grizz and Kit's life at times just doing the married thing, and having my heart broken at the rawness of watching the magnitude of this life and it's lasting effects on the MC's members.The author did her homework and you are flawlessly transported back to Florida circa 1970's and how there was still so much undeveloped land. Certainly the use of this info helped make this book easier to understand. The law and the world was a much different place. No internet, cell phones, cable tv. A girl being kidnapped was news but it was quickly forgotten since leads were few and far between.The emotions we get to witness through Kit's eyes was nothing short of incredible. Watching her develop from the naive little girl into the woman who sometimes felt as if she had lost her way. Her devotion to her husband Grizz, though, was pure and truly beautiful. He sincerely loved her and she felt such gratitude and affection for the big guy. Their scenes were completely heartfelt.The conclusion to this book and the many secrets finally revealed still have me reeling. But when you read a book this well written, you can't help but smile after reading that last line. Yeah, this one blew my mind but what a great feeling that is.A sequel is in the works and I'm very happy to get more out of this very complicated crew.A huge 5 stars for one heck of a debut. Highly recommended!!

Whoa-- By Amazon customer This was a very compelling read, well presented, kept me anxious about bad, nasty, creepy things happening all the time, and they pretty much did happen all the time. The story was shrouded in a net of sadness and stink in its depiction of the life of a 70's bike gang in Florida. The prologue really drew me in and set up a very intriguing premise. Did it deliver? Kinda sorta.*SPOILERS AHEAD!**The heroine, Ginny/Kit, never seemed to really grow up. She was a good person, level-headed, kind, but that girlish naiveté never altered. I expected more of a growing up over the course of this harsh telling of brutal events over the years, but I didn't feel I got it which then annoyed me towards the end when things started changing. She was a Christian who insisted on going to church every Sunday and her husband even drove her a long distance to take her. But she chooses to accept/ tip toe around the brutal criminality around her for the most part, laying low. I don't mean she has to go running to the cops or get moralistic on them, but why doesn't it seem to change her over the years at all, keeping it all down inside--harden her, make her different...I found that unrealistic and frankly, rather dull. Instead she keeps making remarks like: "I don't know why I look the other way.." And she never ever goes to rallies or biker events and keeps to her room the entire time. That too was a bit unrealistic and convenient, especially as she is the head honcho's Old Lady. I would have liked to have seen it mark her somehow. ESPECIALLY after she gets brutally attacked herself. That should have had major, deep after effects on her psychology and the way she behaved. But there is no change after that huge life-changing event.Another problem I had was that she keeps professing her love for Grizz and he for her, which was great, but I never really felt it. I was fine with there being no sex scenes, but the passion between them was lacking...it was as if this couple lapsed into a comfy cozy warm and fuzzy hubs and wife atmosphere pretty smoothly after the initial shock wore off. I wanted to see what drew them together as such a committed couple, that glue, that magnetic connection. I wanted to feel her intense attraction and desire for Grizz, all the other women want him bad, but I didn't get that either and I felt it missing, especially as it seems to be at the core of the story, her devotion to him, loyalty to him and her feeling that he was her ultimate soul mate. So no, I didn't feel their "big love." Neglected all her life by her mother and self-sufficient, Grizz's spoiling of her, as she notes, really cemented their relationship. I didn't feel or understand the pull between hero and heroine other than twisted psychological elements and that's a shame. I needed more to be attached, to care.The end puzzled me. It felt rushed, patched together and not as smoothly paced and developed as the rest of the story. All of a sudden there were two major revelations back to back and I felt like I was being carried off in rush hour traffic without getting all the details. No, I didn't get mind f**ked by the revelations I must admit. But I was bothered that the other hero was actually a manipulative bastard himself. Is that the true, big revelation? Not sure. So now I'm left wondering what the point was here. It began so poignant and heart breaking and powerful, but left me kind of hollow the last 25%. Kit just seemed to bustle through her life with Grizz with a smile on her face, her only concern was about going to college and having a job/purpose in life. And then marries someone else because she has to, is told to, makes legal sense to.....but still I don't get a deep emotional reaction from Kit to this. It's all rational to her. Then she says she deeply loves her new husband, but Grizz will always be her soul mate. Okay.The last epilogue scene where we get to see how Grizz the young biker first saw Kit on the street as a 6 year old urchin was supposed to be all innocent and touching, but I found it disturbing, because I didn't buy it much. Why didn't I buy it? Because we're never given Grizz's point of view, he rather remains a stick figure throughout the story. A menacing presence for sure, but I didn't feel attached to him or his "soul" so I didn't care too much once I got to that sweet bit at the end. It seemed contrived to me to make me feel sad/bad for Grizz. It also seemed like a carbon copy of the first book in another famous bike club series, which shall remain UN-mentioned here.Was this book a wild, nasty ride? You bet your ass. Was it intriguing and a page turner? Yes. Great story telling? Oh yes. Did it leave me begging for book 2? Eh, I don't know. I don't get how the revelations will change things for the characters. Will book 2 be Grunt's pov??....will we get Kit in her post Grizz life with her new husband? Stay tuned.

As a professional psychotherapist in South Florida, I found it to be an insightful depiction of the depravity of the human psyche, plus an accurate description of this area in the 70s. The story is filled with unexpected twists and ironic connections. You won't be able to put it down. I can't wait for the sequel!
