A Checklist for Murder: The True Story of Robert John Peernock, by Anthony Flacco About the Author Anthony Flacco was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, one of four brothers. Their father was an Air Force pilot and mother was a talented artist and painter. His background as a trained stage actor with over 2,000 performances under his Actors Equity membership provides the primary basis for his critically acclaimed ability to empathize with a wide cross-section of personalities. He moved into screenwriting when he was selected for the prestigious American Film Institute fellowship in Screenwriting. He received his MFA in screenwriting after winning AFI's Paramount Studios Fellowship Award and was then selected out of 2,000 entrants for the Walt Disney Studios Screenwriting Fellowship, where he spent a year writing for the Touchstone Pictures division. His screenwriting experience drives narrative stories that are visually compelling, whether for a movie theater or the screen of a reader's imagination. MCBRIDE I've always been a true crime fan, but somehow have never read anything by Anthony Flacco... until now. Guarantee it won't be the last time! I thoroughly enjoyed his style of writing: unlike some authors in this genre, he doesn't seem to be in love with the figurative "sound of his own voice". What I mean is that some authors seem to feel as though the reader is of limited intellect and/or insight, and therefore they must explain the psychological roots, motivations, and ramifications of everything the killer does or thinks. I find that very irritating, and the lack of that pretension is what drew me to Flacco's book and kept my enjoyment level on an even keel throughout the entire story.What this evil man (Peernock) did to his beautiful 20-something daughter and his ex-wife is just so savage that it's hard to wrap your mind around it. I understand rage killings; sometimes people with a predisposition to violent reactions just explode, and whoever's in the way pays the price. I don't condone it, of course, but I understand it. It's the ones like Robert Peernock that leave me speechless. He let himself into and lay in wait inside the house he'd shared with his ex-wife and daughter. When his daughter arrived home in the mid-afternoon, he then carefully and methodically bound and drugged her for hours and hours, awaiting the eventual arrival of his ex-wife home from work around 8pm. His ex-wife wasn't as "lucky" as his daughter, however; he killed her before even leaving the house. Then he loaded them into a car and staged a horrific accident, attempting to turn the car into a fireball to obliterate any forensic evidence. Luckily, his plan ultimately unraveled.The tension was palpable throughout the entire book, and I read it through without a pause. This is a very talented crime writer who just gained a new fan. 9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. A Checklist for Murder By Beryl I have read a few books about this horrific crime. This book is the best one for it informs the reader more details about what took place prior, during and after Robert J. Peer nock committed his heinous crimes against his wife and daughter. It is sad that the wife was killed but we need to extremely thankful that the daughter somehow managed to survive the ordeal she experienced that day and in to the night. True crime readers will definitely feel this book is worth purchasing and that it is very well written.

By Samantha Pardal I listened to a podcast where the author Anthoym Flacco was interviewed about this book. I then purchased and listened to the audiobook. What an incredible story of what the victims (namely Natasha but covers anyone who came into contact with Peernock) had to endure. I could feel the reach and power of this man as I listened. I recommend this book for anyone who is interested in true crime. There are elements of love, hate, torture, murder, trial, punishment, conspiracy, hit men, identity and more! This book doesn't just end at the sentencing phase but rather wraps up the involved characters life's - something I appreciated since most books don't do that service. The only thing stopping me from a 5 star review is that the aspect of mental health was not addressed - no man that is sane would act in the manner Peernock did.
