I have been intrigued by the idea of fasting for weight control for a while, but had never really understood what it entailed. This book walks you step by step through each aspect of intermittent fasting, explaining the benefits, why it works, and different ways of making it fit into your lifestyle. I particularly like the flexible approach the book takes - you can introduce this approach to eating into your diet to a greater or lesser extent, depending on what your goals are. Having read this book, I have a solid understanding of intermittent fasting and feel very confident when planning my own experiments with this eating choice.

The book covers the theory behind intermittent fasting and then moves on to some extremely delicious recipes. In particular I love the photos in this book! Most cook books don't have photos of what you are making so you have no idea if you made them correctly. The other problem with many cook books is that the photos are low quality. Neither of these problems is found in this book. The pictures really help in making the decision of which recipes you want to make and then also evaluating whether you did it right or not!

It is nice to see an elaborate plan and I may try that in the future but I got it because of the promise of 100+ recipes. These recipes surprised me because they have pictures and several of them really stood out like the breakfast sushi platter. So much fun to make with easy ingredients but awesome presentation! The Mediterranean Pizza with yogurt was good too!

Life of Service and Honor By Cheryl Toliver In his autobiography, Jose Alejandrino reflects on how the quest for the Holy Grail in the Knights of the Round Table tales, stories he learned and came to love as a young student in England, became a metaphor for his life - a life of morality, honesty, moderation, and honor in his service to the world while working at UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and in the Philippines as a journalist, political activist, and presidential adviser.Born in 1944 in Thailand to a Filipino family of Jewish-Spanish origin, which converted to Catholicism after migrating to the Philippines, Alejandrino takes us through his world travels and varied life, admitting his failings, while opening readers to an inside view of world politics from the Vietnam War into 2008. Especially interesting is his narrative of events in the Philippines from 1983 through 1998, covering the civil disobedience movement that eventually toppled Ferdinand Marcos, the presidency of Corazon Aquino, and the election and presidency of Fidel Valdez Ramos.Throughout his life, Alejandrino has used his uncanny skill at analyzing situations to predict feasible (and many times accurate) outcomes. In his later years, upon becoming a born-again Christian, he considers this skill as a gift from God and has come to see how God has blessed him throughout his life. Beginning in earliest childhood, he describes his unusual and dramatic experiences in meticulous detail.He grew up as the son of a diplomat, and so the people he knew were politicians, with their friends and families. His accounts of this environment are surprising and often funny. He gained valuable experience in different countries, always rubbing shoulders with the most influencial politicians and their entourages. He worked in UNESCO, where he learned, among other things, the ins and outs of International Finance, and then returned to his native land, the Philippines, to help re-establish peace and democracy when President Ferdinand Marco's policies led to severe trouble.The description of how he handled the situation there reveals him to be a very astute diplomat. He worked behind the scenes in a variety of roles, including as a journalist, influencing important people and events. Thus he was a powerful force in keeping the Philippines evolving in a postitive direction through the election of Cory Aquino, her presidency, and then the presidency of Fidel Valdez Ramos.The story of how he left, due to his refusal to sacrifice his high moral standards, is a startling tale of contorted financial, religious, and political dealings. Sequel Just As Wonderful By A reader in Olympia The Former World continues the adventures of young Nik as she copes with growing up, first love, and the uncertainty of what she should do with her life. I loved this book as much as the first. Every character is so well described, their voices so distinct, that it feels very simple, yet wonderfully rewarding, to get to know them, just as simple, say, as if I myself were living in 19th century Denmark. I don't always feel that way with novels, some being much more work to understand and connect with the characters, that it is a testament to this author's skill in creating this other world and these other lives. Everyone is carefully described and the land and seascapes of Selde, Odense, Fur Island, and the waters of the Limfjord are rich in detail, color, and texture. There are surprises, heartaches, and hopes throughout the story as Nik, her sister Maj, and other family and friends experience the ups and downs of being human. The themes begun in Fossil Island are continued here, including the very important one of what it means to be an artist. Nik is doubtful and uncertain and of course one must love her for that. I think it's not giving away too much to say that she is successful in beginning that journey. Because both novels are based on real lives, how wonderful to know that Emilie Demant Hatt, the woman Nik became, turned into an accomplished painter, early woman ethnographer, and writer, and left behind a very important and rich body of work. I am very glad to have accompanied her on the very earliest part of her journey.

LolI was friends with Lisa online when she wrote this book so I felt I should buy and read it & am Glad that I did as I really enjoyed reading it.I was raised in a small town & felt the characters were very believable. It flowed well with a few plot twists that kept it interesting. I even read the halloween chapter just after watching one of the pirates of the Carabean movies. So I still had the character's fresh in my head & could better visualize the costumes. So the timing on that was perfect. As a Veteran I felt very connected to the patriotic elements of the book as well. An Easy and enjoyable read.Thank You Lisa for sharing your wonderful talent with the rest of us!!

An Invitation To Pilgrimage By Jamie Arpin-Ricci In this collection of moving stories, Alford invites readers to join him on pilgrimage, both to Assisi, Italy, but also among his friends and neighbours in the impoverished neighbourhoods of his home. With simplicity, beauty and a sense of the parable, this book is moving, charming and challenging. Well worth the read for twice the price!

A most non-politically correct look at the old south By Roy Johnson If you dare to have some of your pet theories about the old Antibellum South challenged, take a look at this unusual little volume! The story of a Black slave that became one of the most famous Protestant preachers of the South. The life of John Jasper provides a look at the South from the vantage point of the Preacher himself, with some portions of his sermons reprinted. A most unusual and unorthodox look at the spirit of his era.

Not ever knowing John as he was a good 10+ years older than me..I can relate to his story about life in our small town. Things have changed a lot since we were kids but I still have to believe that if I needed something my neighbors would still help out as they did back then for John. Thanks for your story John...you seem to have overcome any obstacles that tried to stand in your way in your youth and it made you a better person I'm sure. My mom, at 87, had stopped reading, but when you stopped in to give her an autographed book, she was so happy she came home and read it from cover to cover, Telling me how great it was and how she could relate to the book and you. Cold, raw and—WOW!—the pure stuff of fear, bliss, and laughter. Just what this poet needed to become himself. So, what does all this have to do with you? Plenty. There are many journeys we all take—treks through phases of our lives: some intellectual, some emotional, and all in some way are spiritual. So, don’t worry. You don’t have to build a tipi, sleep in an arctic sleeping bag with a 12-gauge shotgun beside you, or bathe in a glacial stream to find your better self in this lifetime. Find your own mountains, your own turning paths, you own regions of fear, reverence and, hoot-to-the-Heavens celebration. Find yourself. Perhaps my story will encourage yours. Hopkins This is a work of art and autobiography by a poet who, once committed to communicate with readers, never compromised on doing so. Robert Nichols years sharing his love of literature with teenagers, and was good at it. But he also loved literature enough to actually create it, and left the city to write, in a tipi near timberline in the Colorado mountains. Personal risk and personal sacrifice produced clear thinking and clear writing. Some of it is about the logistics of living in the high country; some of it about the spiritual trade-offs and why it was worth doing. And set between those chapters are jewel-like memories of dips taken in snow-melt rivers, horses who came to visit inside the tipi, mad mountain midnights, and much else rarely experienced by those of us who live more comfortable lives.

By lorraine This book is great for keeping you awake on a plane ride, and will envelope you in the America of the 60's through the present. The lead character, Lane Stone, is a sympathetic woman who built a successful career, coming up from poverty. She's soft and vulnerable, but hard when she needs to be. She stumbles upon the idea of getting revenge against her psychologist, and becomes obsessed with finding and getting revenge against all the people who have caused her harm. With each act of vigilantism, she become stronger. Yet the sweetness of revenge is short-lived. She begins to hope for redemption from her one true love, Christopher a psychoanalyst, a former candidate for the priesthood and an Olympic pole vaulter. But Chris' life-long best friend, Jimmy, and LAPD cop, senses that Lane may be a criminal. The pull and tug of this triangle and Lane's erotic and inventive ways of being a vigilante will keep the reader wondering will Lane Stone ever find peace. Will Lane find redemption through mature love?

The pictures inside are totally different. This book is a great variety of Christmas stories and poems. It was entertaining for me and I can't wait to share it with my grandchildren. I also enjoyed getting some new recipes! I plan to order a few more to give as Christmas gifts to friends.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. The tastiest feast for a Yankee Fan! By Rusty Just finished my first reading of this book. As an ardent Yankee fan, I didn't want the book to end. The pictures are phenomenal and having lived through the era the author wrote about, it brought back memories that i haven't thought about in years. As time progresses I know I will digest every picture slowly to bring back my own memories of having watched the games. By the way, the story of the author's travels through time, and how he was able to take these pictures is almost as good as the pictures that follow.
