About the Author Benito Pérez Galdós (1843 - 1920) fue un novelista, dramaturgo y cronista español. Papá murió hace 10 años y ahora es cuando yo descubro a este genio maravilloso. In fact, "La Fontana de Oro" is the SECOND Pérez Galdós book I've ever read. The first one, just a few weeks ago, was "Marianela" anothe wonderful story about a blind young man and a girl who guided him. De hecho, "La Fontana de Oro" es el SEGUNDO libro de Pérez Galdós que he leído jamás. El primero, hace apenas algunas semanas, fue "Marianela" otra historia maravillosa, sobre un joven ciego y la muchacha que lo guiaba. If you have never read anything by Benito Pérez Galdós, beware, you can become addicted to his pen very easily. Si ud nunca ha leido nada de Benito Pérez Galdós, cuidado, podría volverse adicto a su pluma con pasmosa facilidad. "La Fontana de Oro" is an incredibly fast paced history which develops itself in Madrid, Spain, in the twenties. But not in the 1920's but in the 1820's. "La Fontana de Oro" es una historia de ritmo trepidante que se desarrolla en Madrid, España, en los años 20. Pero no en los años 20 de 1900 sino de 1800. Pérez Galdós is in a fierce competition within himself. The descriptive Pérez Galdós is almost as strong as the narrative Pérez Galdós, and page after page they develop a fight, to see who is better and stronger. And it's impossible to tell. He is a master narrrator but also a master with perfect descriptions of people or things. Yo have to read it to believe it. Pérez Galdós vive una fiera competencia dentro de sí mismo. El Pérez Galdós descriptivo es casi tan fuerte como el Pérez Galdós narrativo, y página tras páginas ambos desarrollan un combate para ver quien es el mejor y el más fuerte. Y es imposible definirlo. Es magistral como narrador pero tambiñen es un maestro haciendo descripciones perfectas de gente o de cosas. Tienen que leerlo para creerlo. Sincerely, reading the vintage Pérez Galdós may be the greatest literary discovery of your lives. Go for him. You won't be dissapointed!
