About the Author John Carter is the original voice behind the novel JULIO and the quest that its 15-year-old amateur detective goes on. Robert Eidelberg was editorial consultant and editor during John Carter's writing of JULIO; Mr. Eidelberg later went on to create all “the wondering” aloud prompts and their placements for the retitled JULIO: A BROOKLYN BOY PLAYS DETECTIVE TO FIND HIS MISSING FATHER.

Original Detective Story Featuring 15-Year-Old Julio Mendez and "A Built-In Teacher" for Reluctant or Insecure Readers By Speaking Frank-ly If you are in Grades 6 through 9 (or in English transition or special needs classes) and feel that you are a bit reluctant or insecure when it comes to reading full novels, this well-written and highly enjoyable urban thriller is for you. 15-year-old Julio Mendez decides to play detective to find his missing father -- with all the suspenseful help he can get from a diverse group of friends and neighborhood "characters." And, as a special feature, this original young adult mystery novel has a "built-in teacher": 94 "Were You Wondering?" prompts that appear from time to time (off to the side in the margins) that you can either stop for and wonder about or go back to at the end of your reading of that chapter. By the time you get to the last cliff-hanger in this 180-page book, you will not only have read a terrific story with increasing understanding but you will have interactively learned to be a better thinker and reader of all kinds of stories.
