By Kriss Siler BROKE, HUNGRY AND HAPPY is undoubtedly one of the most compelling and moving true stories I have read in a long time, and like Rae Ann, I am a voracious bookworm. This book is a magnificent tribute by a phenomenal mother, Rae Ann Norell, to the endearing life and legacy of her son, David Norell. I knew nothing about kayaking. After reading this book I have tremendous respect for all kayakers as well as for the sport itself. I'm so grateful to Rae Ann for incorporating the first person writings by her son David in Part I of this book, for not only do I know more about kayaking, but I've come to know David, a truly remarkable young man. I am also very grateful to Rae Ann for candidly sharing her own feelings and emotions and unvarnished love in Part II. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it to everyone. You won't be disappointed!

Part I introduces Dave an extreme kayaker, extreme life-lover, extreme people-lover describing cliffs, white water, holes, rolls and swims.Part Ii shares Dave mother's grief which reveals a profound love of an extraordinary mother for her extraordinary son. You will be "stoked."Page 164, Dave says,"Waking up to quality white water, an entire day in fact, is why I thank my mother for giving me life."

Happy trumps broke By mona morrison Interesting perspective - a story of a young man's life of adventure and joy, written after his death by his mother. The author manages to work through her own grief by celebrating the love for life and adventure her son had - well worth reading by any parent learning to let a child be who they are.
