Russell Williams: The True Crime Case of the Canadian Air Force Colonel Serial Killer is available now “I, David Russell Williams, do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs and Successors. So help me God.” Canadian Oath of Allegiance The peaceful nation of Canada, home to more than 35 million people, is recognized as a place governed by tranquility and well-behaved citizens. It has also enjoyed a steady decline in crime since the nineties, one of the few countries in the Americas that can pride itself on that statistic. Perhaps it is due to those characteristics that no Canadian was expecting the gruesome case described in this book… David Russell Williams (born March 7, 1963), shocked his fellow servants in the Canadian Armed Forces, the nation, and the world in 2010, when he was arrested for the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of two innocent young women on different occasions, along with the sexual assaults of two others, after having accomplished many accolades in his life—in terms of command, decoration, and reputation. The same pilot who had flown Canadian Forces VIP aircraft for massively recognized figures such as Queen Elizabeth, Prince Phillip, and the Prime Minister of Canada, faced charges that only grew as investigations continued. His sexual deviancy become public, and the terrible acts he committed were covered day and night by worldwide press. Williams deep down was a monster, but he had known how to suppress his urges, making sure to never allow the beast inside him to show itself to his peers and family, maintaining a household with his beloved wife for almost two decades. Very unlike other serial killers and torturers, Williams seemed very matter-of-fact about what he did in secret, leading two different lives, never falling into panic or despair - even when he was finally caught and made his confession to a police agent one fateful Sunday in February 2010. The following is the story of the Killer Colonel, who, despite being a successful man with a University education, piloting knowledge, and experience as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, who had a loving wife and many friends, created a lethal combination of sexually dominating fantasies and violence that led to the torture and death of two women, in addition to breaking and entering of the homes of dozens upon dozens of others. I don't think we'll ever have answers that satisfy our need to know why he or anyone else would do these sort of things but that's just my opinion. This book will leave you shaking your head in disbelief. This man was incredible...at being evil. He fooled everyone and I do mean "everyone".This book has gripped my attention and actually given me nightmares and I find myself pondering over the story. I would recommend it to anyone who is fascinated by the duality of this seemingly outstanding character and his dark, fetishistic desires and their eventual enactment. Williams is the ultimate paradox but some of his early pranking behaviour was indicitive of lurking evil.

The author wonders about Williams and the victims and through telling the facts of the crimes he shows great respect for the vic By Nicola Mansfield A short but well-written, detailed walkthrough of the shocking Russell Williams serial rapist turned killer case. This was a truly staggering crime for Canada when it came to light that such a long-term, decorated career military man could live a double life as a deadly degenerate, the country was astounded. Crane has put the case together chronologically starting with who Crane was and his sudden flip to the dark side. Crane writes well, though not in a narrative style but more journalistic. Factually he's presenting no more information than one could find scouring all the newspapers but here it's put together in a natural cohesive order with asides from Crane. The author wonders about Williams and the victims and through telling the facts of the crimes he shows great respect for the victims and families by not adding anything gratuitous or more than is needed to show William's true cold-blooded monstrosity. I haven't read anything else on Williams except the news at the time but it's an interesting case for two reasons: Williams seems to be atypical waking up one day in his forties to start upon the path to becoming a serial killer and secondly he's the first Canadian military member to be stripped of his rank, his name fully removed from historical records, had his uniforms burned and medals cut up. A good introduction to the case!

For those who want the facts on this case, this book is definitely the one to read, and the author did a great job putting it all down on paper, but as other reviewers said, this is not for the faint of heart. It is extremely graphic and equally heart-wrenching. After reading what little is in this book about the case, and knowing there is much more that was not disclosed, I can only imagine the pain that the families left behind suffer.
