About the Author Ronald Gower grew up in South St. Paul, Minnesota, and is a professor emeritus of Minnesota State University, Mankato, where he taught primarily American literature, including Canadian and South American courses. He has also been a soldier, ski instructor, musician, and freelance writer. His publications include literary criticism, essays and features, and more than one hundred poems. This is his first book of poetry.

Marie-Antoinette did *not* say the line about the cake By Sjoerd Bakker Marie-Antoinette did *not* say the line about the cake... it was Maria Theresa, wife of Sun King Louis XIV who's supposed to have said something like: "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche". Furthermore, correspondence with her relatives indicates that Marie-Antoinette was not at all the frivolous, "wicked" queen as many picture her to be. On the contrary... she probably was rather on the prudish side, and noone has even found any proof supporting an affair with Fersen.
