About the Author Jerry Boyd lives in Eastern Oregon and is currently in his 51st year in public safety. He currently serves as the Reserve Commander with a local law enforcement agency and coordinates a five county, regional law enforcement training academy. His career began at age 18 when he served as a Technical Reserve (Communications) with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Later, he moved up the ranks until, in 1981, he was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Coronado California and served in that capacity for ten years. The last five years of his full time law enforcement career were spent as Chief of Police in Martinez, California. In 2003, Jerry and his family re-located to Eastern Oregon; not long after that, he was appointed Director of a Consolidated 9-1-1 Dispatch Center, a position he held for 8-1/2 years until again retiring. Now, as a retired law enforcement officer, Jerry runs the Eastern Oregon Regional Reserved Officer Training Academy. He is the author of Firestone Park: Policing South Central Los Angeles; The Second Seven; From the Chief; and Law Enforcement and Oathkeepers; all available at Amazon.com. Jerry has a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from California State University at Long Beach. He and his wife, Jay, live in Eastern Oregon.

Rangel In his book, "My Years As A Chief", Jerry Boyd demonstrates how hard decisions are made using the law, upstanding morals, and a deep caring for fellow man a guide. He explains, probably, to chagrin of the politically correct, that police work is not always about being a nice guy, but making sure the officer goes home at night. He is so right. He believes that bad guys belong in jail and that to that end he served. This book is as much about leadership as it is about police work. It is about doing the right thing within the law. It is about honoring the profession of a peace officer and honoring the public as well. Our supposed, "leaders", of this country as well as some of our police department leader need to read this book get back on track.
