Grace O’Malley and Gordie MacNeil seem to have it all. He’s a professional hockey player. She’s married to a successful real estate developer. But what looks like success feels hollow. The problem is that they’re living other people’s dreams. While Gordie endures a loveless marriage and dedicates himself to winning games for his Philadelphia team, he dares to imagine a less complicated future in his family’s ancestral home in the islands of Scotland. Grace puts up with a life she never wanted, shelving her artistic ability to play the part of a merely decorative wife. When one day Grace and Gordie see each other at one of his games, both their lives are changed forever. Will Grace, unintentionally named for a notorious pirate queen, dredge up latent buccaneer skills in order to get to know this man she feels so strangely drawn to? Will Gordie, gifted with Second Sight, forgo duty for once to meet this woman he recognizes from a teenage vision? Only time—and a crazy weekend in the Poconos—will tell.

Grace and Gordie, our heroine and hero, both find themselves at points of crossroads in their lives. Celtic Crossing paints an eloquent picture of what it means to find that the path you have taken has not brought you to happiness and how best to reconnect with your true self and with the people around you who respect and value you as you really are.Grace and Gordie find themselves through each other, and find love along the way. Their stories are entwined from the outset and Delaney leads us along as they struggle to extricate themselves from their lives to build new ones together.I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would recommend it to anyone, especially anyone who has ever considered running away to become a pirate!

The two main characters, Gordie and Grace were in completely different places at the start, but you knew they would meet. How would that be accomplished was the question. The story was engaging, and I didn't want to put it down. The descriptions were rich and accurate -- I grew up in Bucks County and currently live in Central New Jersey, and knew exactly where she was talking about throughout -- and I even learned the order of the bridges across the Delaware, something I never really knew before. I'd go to Scotland any time, but now I particularly want to see Barra.I identified with both Gordie and Grace in many ways, and when it was over, I definitely wanted more.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I want to go to Scotland By dorothe biro This author has a wonderful ability to use words to draw the scenes in her stories. I felt I was present in the Philadelphia and New Jersey settings. I felt, and wished that I was there in the Scottish sections of the book. The characters' subtle ( and not so subtle) discontent led to the hilarious mountain adventures. Then on to a completely satisfying "tying up of loose ends". Susan Delaney's books just keep getting better and better.
