Another Triumph from the author of the Silver Shoes By Michael Sheridan As the sequel to the Silver Shoes, The Powder of Life author Paul Miles Schneider has taken the development of contemporary Oz-themed story-telling to incredibly new and exciting heights. The Powder of Life engagingly continues Donald Gardner's amazing journey from Kansas to new and incredible places beyond and back. I received my hardback in yesterday afternoon's mail and by midnight last night, had read it cover to cover. What a wonderful story! Mr. Schneider is such a talented writer and gifted story-teller. The story is simply amazing--complex yet flowing, fast-paced and exciting, touching, terrifying at points, compelling, imaginative, intimate, clever, inventive, so tightly woven, with twists and turns that are thrilling to read--literally page after page after page. The author's treatment of Mr. Time is so clever and simply amazing. The moral(s) of the story is/are very gently told, without being preachy or high-handed. The most astonishing part of The Powder of Life is the level of creativity and imagination that simply oozes out of every page. By the end of the book, I literally wanted to BE Donald Gardner--to be young again, full of possibilities, and share in and witness the power, magic, wonder, and transformation that takes place throughout The Powder of Life. Having been blessed enough to have known the author's mother, I must add that there is much of her in The Powder of Life's pages. I could literally feel and was very moved by the gentleness of her spirit which came to life from out of the pages to give me a big, warm hug, as she had done so many times before. The Powder of Life is a monumental work of creativity, imagination, and just plain fun--a thrilling and captivating sequel to the Silver Shoes. Mr. Baum would be/will be/is, I am certain, so completely thrilled by the story. Mr. Schneider is so very talented. I know the book will be a huge success. I can't wait to get my copy autographed. I am honored to be the first review to heartily recommend The Powder of Life to readers of all ages, Oz-philes or not. Things I love about Paul Miles Schneider's THE POWDER OF LIFE By cturtle Things I love about Paul Miles Schneider's THE POWDER OF LIFE:1) It's even better than SILVER SHOES! Even though it's almost twice as long, with more characters and a more intricate plot, the story is tighter, with everything woven together very effectively.2) Donald, Chris, and John! Most of the story involves Donald teaming up with his buddies. They make for a fun and likable group.3) Great scenes! The writing is very episodic, with the story told through action and believable dialogue. I could see every scene in my mind as I was reading.4) Surprises! Schneider has written one heck of an imaginative story with oodles of surprises throughout. I was always eager to read on to find out what would happen next.5) The OZ connection! You won't hear any spoilers from me, but there are many, many connections to the original OZ books. You don't HAVE to have read the Baum stories, but If you have you'll be even more delighted.With SILVER SHOES and THE POWDER OF LIFE, Schneider has continued the OZ canon in a way that I think Baum himself would have been proud. These novels are very contemporary with wonderful elements that will satisfy young readers and adults.BTW ... Did I mention time travel is involved? Oops! You didn't hear that from me!

Back to the world of the Silver Shoes By David Chamberlain My New Year's present (to myself) was to read "The Powder of Life", the sequel to "Silver Shoes" (on my Kindle so as not smudge my signed hardback, of course). All I can say is "Wow!" - I loved "Silver Shoes" so now I don't have a verb to express my appreciation of the sequel. Paul, you outdid yourself!The story line of "Silver Shoes" continues in "The Powder of Life" when Donny and his friends Jon and Chris are faced with new challenges and more adventures. As in "Silver Shoes" Donny and the guys are portrayed as typical pre-teens (perhaps a bit smarter and certainly braver than most) with typical pre-teen concerns who are caught up in an adventure worthy of L. Frank Baum himself. The plot is tight and quickly paced and the book is over (sadly) before you even realize it. Donny, Jon, and Chris learn a lot about Oz and the purpose of life while figuring out how to overcome numerous challenges. Another tour de force by Paul Miles Schneider and a great addition to your shelf of Oz books (something everyone should have). Don't miss this one!I can hardly wait for the next book! (And yes, Munchkins, there *is* another book in the offing! A very Ozzy huzzah for that!!)
