Prince Liam of Broskoe will no longer bow to his mother’s outrageous orders. Because of his speech impairment, the result of a childhood illness, most people— including the queen— believe him to be a half-wit. Neglected in his upbringing, Liam has learned to take what he wants, by whatever means necessary, be it a lover, an education, or secret training as a spy. Forced into hiding, he flees to neighboring Doros and gets work in the kitchen of the castle keep.

Finley, Duke of Doros, finds himself between a rock and a hard place. The King of Carsson has once again demanded an increase to the annual levy, and Doros’s resources are dwindling due to a poor harvest, worsened by early snows. Not even he, the mightiest of warriors, can stop winter from coming early, but he will not stand by and watch his people starve.

Two men— two lonely hearts— meet under the strangest of circumstances. Each learns to grapple with formidable enemies: not only the forces of Mother Nature, but the darker aspects of human nature. They must overcome greed, lust, loneliness, and betrayal, as well as their own insecurities, if they are to find that one thing that makes life worth all the trouble.

DETERMINED is a romance inspired by the nineteenth-century German tale Allerleirauh, written by the brothers Grimm. The most common English translation for this title is All-Kinds-of-Fur.

WARNING: In addition to depictions of violent combat and death, which some readers may find objectionable, this book contains graphic sex scenes and is unsuitable for underage readers.

By Tex Reader 3.5 of 5 stars –I love gay fantasy and romances, and for me, the retelling of a Grimm fairy tale increased my attraction, and I'd say I was satisfied with the read. This had all the hallmarks of a "romance" novel, with the addition of some scenes that were a little more racy, which was fine by me. I was curious and read a little about the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, "A Cloak of All Furs", and this m/m reinvention followed the original storyline fairly closely, with of course the nice gay twist. The story kept me interested, particularly the addition of the spying part (which wasn't part of Grimm).Bealevon Nolan's writing was easy to read, nicely descriptive, and moved along at a pretty good pace. I did feel, though, that particularly early on, there was more telling the story, rather showing, saying and doing. But it eventually turned into a good story with suspense, and I got wrapped up in the relationship that appealed to the romantic in me.I did have to keep in mind that this was a romance, and a fairy tale at that, so for the sake of enjoying the story I did give some leeway - for example, I liked the MCs but their characters weren't deeply developed, there was some implausibility in the relationships along with some rather convenient circumstances ***(such as the whole set up that required them to strip and warm themselves)***, the court politics and machinations were fairly simple and not too involved (thus not as intriguing), ***the incestual desires of the mother came out of nowhere and handled awkwardly***, and it was a bit unrealistic that an intelligent and aware guy like Finley, at his mature age, would be completely oblivious to and then suddenly attracted to men; it just doesn't happen that way among guys.A bonus as part of this romance were the multiple sex scenes that were mostly well told, especially later on ***with the lovemaking on their wedding night*** being particularly descriptive and passionate. The scenes made sense, weren't too many, and generally fit in well with the story, which drew me in all the more.Upon reflection, the title can have many meanings - a determined prince, a determined duke, determined as in a future determined for you, or determined as by fate - and it was nice how all this played out into a fun reinvention of a fairy tale.[Thanks to the author and Goodreads' Don't Buy My Love program for a free copy in exchange for an honest review]

Thank you Ms. Nolan for offering up your story. This story is based on a well-known fairy tale: Peau d'âne written by Charles Perrault in France and its variant Allerleirauh written by Jacob Grimm and his brother in Germany. I was surprised in the comments of some other readers that it is not very well known outside Europe. The original story is about incest but here it is not the main topic just the starting point of the book (linked to the Queen's madness).A romance that begins as a fairy tale and will carry us into a historical world full of adventures, conspiracies, fighting, death and of course love. It is well-written, easy and pleasant to read despite a few scenes with some violence (but which have their place in the context of the story).I really like Finley, he is interesting, endearing and credible. But I have some reluctances about Liam... he makes me think of a character’s caricature (he looks like more a sex maniac than a prince at the beginning). Luckily he improves a bit at the end! There are also a few interesting and endearing secondary characters (who would also deserve to have their own story written). There are many interesting things in this book: the historical aspect (I think that story takes place in the middle ages), exciting adventures, full of suspense and well told for each of the characters and a few love scenes (just what it should be… neither too much or too little). I enjoyed reading this book and would have like a sequel.

Fun By Delaney This book was given to me for free in exchange for an honest review.Liam, the prince of Broskoe, is on the run from his mother the Queen, who has suggested a very screwed up proposition. His mother believes Liam is a simpleton because of a speach impediment from a childhood illness. She treats him like a child and with disgust, and therefore so do many others. When he comes of age to train as a warrior he is forbidden, but some believe in him and he is secretly trained as a spy. While on the run he ends up disguising himself as a mute servant female at Finley, the Duke of Doros home. Finley has problems of his own keeping his people from starvation due to an alliance with a traitorious king. Liam has his sights on Finley from the start and comes up with an unconventional way of getting his attention. Due to certain circumstances situations change and difficulties are overcome. Both characters are well written. And the secondary characters are fantastic. The only problem I had was that I thought to myself (several times) that both Liam and Finley had their minds on sex when they should have been on taking care of business. Some things in the story (like a Duke traveling without his own guard and leaving someone he doesn't know in charge of his home and people) were unbelievable. That being said I did have a good time reading this. The premise of the story was new and had some interesting twist. It also had a lot going on and moved along at a nice pace. I'll definately give this author another look.
