About the Author Matt Fulks is a freelance writer and editor and a regular contributor to various publications, including the Kansas City Star and Royals Baseball Insider magazine, the official publication of the Kansas City Royals. In recent years, he has also written for CBS Sportsline, the Denver Post, and USA Today Sports Weekly. He is the author or coauthor of 16 books, including projects with Royals legends Denny Matthews, Frank White, and Fred White. He lives in Overland Park, Kansas. Dayton Moore is the general manager of the 2015 World Series champion Kansas City Royals. Since taking over in 2006, Moore has rebuilt the Royals organization into one of baseball’s best. He lives in Leawood, Kansas.

The 2014 Royals fell just 90 feet short of tying the game against the San Francisco Giants in Game 7 of the World Series, so it was quite a feat to come all the way back from that in 2015 and have the goal of finishing with a World Series win-- and then actually do it. Taking the Crown details not only several of the key moves for the Kansas City Royals, but also takes us through many of the key parts of the 2015 season in general, most importantly the moments that really signified an epic season. What I liked about the book is how it explored the many ups and downs just within the postseason. The book also does a good job of detailing the character of the Royals, and their "never quit" attitude, and their motto "Keep the line moving." . A great read for any Royals fan!
