About the Author J.R. Collard grew up in a quiet farming community of the Belgian Ardennes, a region twice invaded by German armies in their march toward the North Sea and the English Channel. His family was active in the resistance. After the war he and his sister immigrated to the United States.

Creme This is a first person account of what happened in a small Belgian village when the Germans occupied the country. It is not a story of war but rather a story of survival. What one needs to do to survive, when you food, livelihood and liberty are suddenly taken away. It is an experience that everyone hopes will never be repeated. It is written simply and in a matter of fact way from the viewpoint of a young boy. It is a story told from the heart left with deep scars from the trauma. I recommend this highly if one wants to get an insight into this time and how one copes with this type of experience. Not all the heroes of this time are in the history books. Some passed by unknown, except to those they loved.
